Thanksgiving Travel

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and travel plans are being made by many of you. I'll be staying home having dinner with my family, I'm the pie baker as usual, but I was just thinking that I must be a dinosaur. The last time I flew in a jet was 1967 and 1969. I traveled half-way around the world to join my husband who was in the Navy. I dressed very similar to the picture above, heels, gloves, and purse. It was a more formal time then. The hostesses were called stewardesses and they all looked alike, young, trim, and pretty. If I had to travel by air today, I wouldn't even know how to pack my suitcase! And don't get me started with the pat-down at check-in! So much has changed since 911 and the terrorist threats.

Sometimes it seems like life is easier with our casual dress and attitudes, but to me the casual dress makes people think it's okay to be impolite. Maybe they just no longer practice manners on a regular basis so it's more difficult or awkward to use them when needed. I've also noticed, when I've been in airports, that people are louder, and quite often impolite, bumping into each other without even an "excuse me." Children no longer know what an "inside voice" is. I can only imagine what flying in an enclosed cabin is like with rude and obnoxious people sitting next to you.

For now, I'm perfectly happy to keep my feet on the ground near my gardens and close to those who love me and are kind and considerate of each other's feelings.

What does all of this have to do with my garden blog? Nothing! I just felt like writing about it.

I hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving and if you're flying, safe travels.

Febreze Laundry Odor Eliminator Giveaway

When the folks at Febreze contacted me and asked me to give their new product, Febreze Laundry Odor Eliminator, a try they had no idea what a fan of Febreze I already was. Before writing this post, I did a quick check of my cupboards -- here's what I found: two cans of Febreze Air Effects - lavender vanilla and comfort scent, one Febreze to Go - Extra Strength, and one Febreze for Fabrics and Carpets - also lavender vanilla and comfort scent. My love for Febreze has been ongoing since they first came on the market, so I was eager to give their newest addition a go.

I originally intended to try it on dirty, sweaty garden clothes, but the garden is closed now and all that remains are a few straggling leaves that need to be raked up (which my husband does with the mower) But here is what I did instead:
First I ran a few old towels through the wash with the Laundry Odor Eliminator added to my regular detergent. Why? I hate to admit it but I am guilty of sometimes forgetting about a load of towels in the wash and leaving them there, wet, for days before I remember them. Two towels have never recovered from the mildew smell. No more. Febreze took it right out! Gone!

Next I tossed in a smelly dog blanket and an old doggie toy. Teddy is just like a child and carries that stinky thing around with him everywhere. It truly smells as fresh as new. Not a floral scent, just no scent at all!

At lastly I washed an old hoodie sweatshirt that I save for wearing while sitting around our campfires. The smoke smell always lingers. I need to hang it up away from other clothes. You guessed it. I no longer smell like a fireman returning from a housefire!

I can't wait to try this Febreze Laundry Odor Eliminator next spring when the garden clothes smell like, well, you know, after working in the hot sun. (Even though, as my mother used to say, I don't sweat, I glow.)
