What Happened to Global Warming?

Global warming? I think not! This was the scene we woke up to today. It's been snowing for weeks, sometimes a slight break so we can shovel out, but on Thursday it really got going and by Friday we had accumulated 11.5 inches in a 24 hour period. It continued on through Saturday, and it hasn't stopped all day today. The winds are now strong enough to classify it as a blizzard. We are expecting 10 more inches tonight!
Normally, here in Western Michigan, we don't get snow until Christmas Eve, almost like clockwork. This year so far we've had 55 inches of snow; our average for this time of year is 14 inches!! It's 6 degrees out! 16 below, windchill!

The road has merged in with with the yard, and we are in "whiteout" conditions. They have actually pulled the snowplows from the road because it's too dangerous for them. Several expressways are now closed, one because of a 30 car pile-up which included 14 semi trucks, and sadly one death.

The front steps have disappeared. You can barely see the ridge from yesterday's snowblowing. After a second cleaning out the edge measured over 2 feet!

They are already closing schools for Monday, even the malls are closed today! What's to happen to the last minute shoppers? Will we have Christmas?

My niece is driving north from Florida with her husband and three kids. They were excited to see snow for the first time. If they manage to get through, they will see more snow than they could ever have dreamed of. Global warming? I think not!

These pictures are just so beautiful. I realize conditions are dangerous for those trying to get about but from inside the safety of your home, it sure is picture postcard perfect. I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas. So glad to have found your blogs - I love them all.

I laughed at the title of your post! My husband always asks the same thing. :-)

What beauty! I know it's cold, but it is gorgeous!

Jane Marie,

It makes you wonder...we are having record freezes in our zone 7 garden! But I know it's still out masquerading as climate change!

Jane Marie, I'm sorry but I don't miss that part of Michigan! I was born in Niles, grew up in St. Joe, went to college at Grand Valley in Allendale, and then lived in Taylor for 23 years. Here is the Columbus Ohio area we are freezing cold, but no snow for now. Thank goodness! Hope your family arrives safely. We travel to Detroit tomorrow night, so wish us luck.

I too am chuckling at your title. My thoughts on the subject - man in his insignificance has little impact on climate change, and the natural cycle of the weather.
I thought we'd had lots of snow and nasty weather conditions here, but you've had more than your share in MI. Ours pales in comparison.
How sad about that horrible pile-up. What a nightmare!
I hope your neice and family arrive safely and that the kids have a ball in the snow.
Love the photo of your house looking so pretty in the snow. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas filled with many blessings.

You sound like my husband, Jane Marie, and only 3 days into winter! Hold onto your hat, dear ... more is on the way! This is already a memorable winter ...YES (?) ... and I've lived here all my life (although I do remember frigid, snowy winters like this as a child). May Christmas Blessings and warmth surround you and your loved ones. Wishing you (and our dear Michigan) a Happy New Year!

I hope by now you have dug out and were able to have a merry Christmas with your family, Jane Marie! We haven't had the snow you have had, but it certainly has been a cold winter with strange weather so far. Maybe this means spring will come early??

Kinda envious right now! We haven't had hardly any snow yet this winter season in central Indiana. I'm sure I've just jinxed us now though. :)

I'm hoping that everything is going well for you, Jane Marie, and that the Lord will hold you close, blessing everything you do all week and always and particularly blessing the sale of your house.

XO,

Sheila :-)
