Today I am going to take you through the Tropical Gardens. My favorite time of year to go here is in the spring when there is a butterfly show. The photo ops then are fantastic. Exotic butterflies are flying everywhere and sometimes actually land on your arm or shirt. Maybe next spring I'll be able to make it.
For the most part, the rest of this post will be very light on words.

Do you see the butterfly or moth?

This is one of the most popular exhibitions. Here is a description of American Horse, one of two in the world. This detailed copy of da Vinci's original, which was destroyed in 1499, was commissioned by the gardens. The second one was given to Italy to replace the first.

This miniature American Horse was commissioned a little later when they realized that people with visually challenged could not understand the size and proportions. Here they can run their hands over it to get a better idea.

I hope you enjoyed the tour of Meijer Gardens.

Jane Marie, I'm very partial to tropicals. The orchids are wonderful. The ones on the face of the rock wall remind me of something similar at the Garfield Park Conservatory in Chicago. Thank you for taking us along on your visit to Meijer Gardens!
WOW! How amazing... all of those plants, and orchids, must have been a bit overwhelming to see. And I love that there are kids climbing on the other hooves of the American Horse. Very fun.
wonderful post, thanks for sharing!
Beautiful tour! I remember oohing and aahing at the tropical garden area here when we visited a few years ago. The da Vinci horse was my favorite of the sculptures, too. I had forgotten about the smaller one for the visually impaired.
Thanks for taking us along!
Sometimes you just don't need words...
