This blog is not about flowers; this is a new concept that I will be doing on Thursdays.
Today is the first day of Thankful Thursday. Rhondi at Rose Colored Glasses has been doing Thankful Thursday on her blog, and her readers would leave notes of what they were thankful for in the comment box. For the first time today we are blogging as a group with links back to Rhondi.
It was a tough decision on what to start with. I had a lot of ideas, and I didn't want this to go on forever. Here is what I decided to start with and what is truly in my heart:

I am thankful to be an American. I remember when I was young the big question was why was I born here; how did I end up with these parents on this continent? Why me? I was always a big thinker, even as a kid. But the facts are that all over the world there is misery, starvation, and war. How did I get so lucky to be chosen to live in this country where I can be what I want to be, worship how I want to worship, drive from state to state without restrictions, leave the country whenever I want, go to school to get an education, and vote for my leaders! When I stop to think about it, the whole concept blows me away. I'll never have the answers, only God knows. But until I get a chance to ask Him, I will forever be thankful to be free; thankful to be an American.

What a lovely concept, I think we often need a reminder to be thankful for all we have; this is a good way to achieve it!
So, I am thankful that you posted it, a reminder to me to stop brooding and remember just how much good there is in life too.

As Zoe said, we all need to stop once in a while and be thankful for our many blessings. This is a great idea. Will try to join you when I can. I think being free and living in America is indeed a reason to be thankful!
I am joining you in thankfulness.
Wonderful idea! I think it's important to be thankful everyday.
Jane Marie,
This is my first visit to your blog & my first Thankful Thursday too. I'm also a very thankful American, so glad you posted this!
I'm so happy to see photos of daylilies...my favorite!
I'm off to read some more!

What a splendid idea here. We all have to be mindful of so many, many great things to be thankful for!

Thank you for sharing your first thankful Thursday. Being thankful and being positive about life is what it's all about. If we all tried a little harder to concentrate on the positive instead of the negative, this world would be a much nicer place.
We are truly blessed to be living in countries where we have freedom of choice what ever it may be! You are thankful to be in America and I to be living in Canada!I wish you many blessings in your country of choice.
hugs NG
What a great way to start off your Thankful Thursday posts Jane Marie. I agree with you wholeheartedly although I appreciate all these things so much more the older I get (didn't think about it like you did when I was younger). Freedom is truly a precious gift.
Wow - I often think of those unanswered questions, too. Probably too much...and I, too , have summed it up that hopefully when I pass on, I'll find out the answers. Thanks for visiting my blog, I've enjoyed your blog as well...ah, yes....love the daylillies!!!
