A Pink Flamingo?

Would you use a pink flamingo in your garden? Well, it goes against everything I believe in for a Michigan gardener. BUT my 86-year-old father made this for me. So what would you have said? I said, "Thank you very much."

My first thought was -- tacky! Then I took another unbiased look. It's really kind of cute. And look at the detail of the painting. But where to put it?

Suddenly inspiration struck! I had just dug out an ailing bush and the corner of my fence was empty. Doesn't it look lovely by the stained glass bird house? (My yard sale find last year)

Now I am in love with my pink flamingo. It's funny how the right setting can make all the difference.

I think your flamingo is very handsome, and made all the more so because your father made it for you. He looks quite content in his corner. My uncle (who passed last summer and whose garden I've been tending...) had two of those horrid, plastic pink flamingos in one of his beds. They were sun-bleached, and 60's, and very tacky looking, but he loved them, and though I did remove them temporarily, I may see if I can restore them with a bit of flamingo- pink paint, if such a thing exists. His garden just doesn't seem the same without those long necks peeking through the greenery. :)

Father Knows Best! Go for it, Jane Marie. A garden craves a big of whimsy (and you are most lucky to have your loving Father near).

I'd say he's quite the dapper fellow. Keep him in! Yes, he complements the stained glass bird house nicely.

I think, coming from you 86 yr. old father, the flamingo is adorable :) And it does look great with the stained glass birdhouse. What a great find that was!
Your dad did a good job.
