I have been trying to lure either a bluebird or indigo bunting to my yard for 15 years. I see them flying in a neighbor's yard several houses over, but they never come here.

As I was eating breakfast, I looked out to see what I first thought was a dark grey bird on the feeder. I grabbed the binoculars which just happened to be close by. It was an Indigo Bunting. They are so beautiful! (Click on him for a closer look at his colors.) He stayed there for a long time as I watched him eat. Then I thought, you dummy, a camera! So I ran to the other room, ran back, and luckily he was still there. I took these pictures through a dirty window that hasn't been cleaned on the outside since winter, so please excuse the clarity. I was just lucky to get a chance to see him let alone take a picture.

Yesterday, another unusual bird was at my feeder. I couldn't find it in the book but I thought it might be a female oriole. Brown, stripes on the head, and a light orange chest.
Not more than two minutes after the indigo bunting left this wonderful male oriole swooped in. He was playing with a female in the pine tree and then came down to check out Mrs. Wren's nest in the apple tree.

The camera was right there at my fingertips, so I got a few more shots through the glass.
Wow, what a day. Hmmmm, now where did I buy that last bag of seed? It must be something special!

Marie, I just couldn't see the birds until I clicked on the pictures to enlarge them. Wow!! What great photos. You should list yourself on the Top 100 Photo Sites! You could rocket to the top with pictures like that! Mike

I can completely understand you standing watching your new visitors and not thinking to get your camera. I have done exactly the same :-D
